Macomb, IL – The snow and ice storms of the past few weeks have caused blood supplies to drop for some local agencies. The Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center says several blood drives were cancelled in mid-February because of a snow storm. As a result, the group lost some 300 units of blood. In addition, this is the flu season, which has also caused donations to decrease. The MVRBC says it will hold special blood drives and increase goals in an effort to bring supplies back up to normal levels. The blood center has contracts with 53 hospitals in 45 counties.
