West Point, IA – One Southeast Iowa community hopes a new school building will be constructed in its backyard. City Administrator, Art White, says a roughly 30-acre piece of land, just outside West Point's city limits, would be a great location for the Fort Madison school district's proposed K-8 grade facility. He says West Point could provide access to South Park, utilities, police and fire protection. Fort Madison residents will vote, October 16th, on whether to borrow $16,000,000 for the new school. If the West Point site is chosen, White says the city could annex the property and possibly offer some financial incentives. The school district is also considering land between Fort Madison and Denmark.
