Macomb, IL – No one showed up to vote at Western Hall for this week's Macomb elections, so there is a renewed push to make some changes. The Western Hall polling place was established for WIU students. But given the low turnout there for the past three elections, McDonough County Clerk Gretchen DeJaynes wants to get rid of it and replace it with an early voting site in the University Union. She says the early voting location could be open for a week or more and any registered voter in McDonough County could cast a ballot there. She believes it would increase opportunities for students and others to vote. She says the changes would need to be approved by WIU and by the county board. DeJaynes estimates it cost at least $500 to operate the Western Hall polling place this week, even though not a single ballot was cast there.
