Fort Madison, IA – The proposed sale of a former school building in Fort Madison, to a California-based company, could be in jeopardy. Wilshire Investments Group agreed to purchase the old Jefferson Elementary School, in late 2005, and turn it into a boarding school for up to 300 international students. At this point, though, the sale has not been completed. Fort Madison Superintendent, Kenneth Marang, says March 1 is the deadline to get the deal done. He says the district will look at tearing the school down and selling the empty lot if a deal is not reached. Fort Madison Attorney, Elaine Eschman, represents Wilshire Investments Group. She says the company is still trying to secure funding for the project and is working with the school district.
