Carthage, IL – Low water levels forced Carthage to increase its purchase of water from Hamilton. Now rains have refilled the lake. Mayor James Nightingale says cold ground has helped increase the runoff from the watershed, and the water is over the spillway. He says the city will continue to buy water from Hamilton through the pipeline. In addition, aldermen are looking into more long-term solutions. The city is also seeking a grant to change its piping system to let it buy more water through the pipeline.
