Keokuk, IA – The Keokuk City Council was not able to get any official business done last night. Due to personal or professional conflicts, just 3 of Keokuk's 9 city council members showed up at City Hall. The trio took part in the council's weekly workshop, which focused on sewer projects, fire equipment, and property demolition. But when it came time for the formal meeting to begin, a 5-member quorum was not present, so Mayor Dave Gudgel called off the meeting. The city council had a full agenda. Aldermen were set to adopt the city's new budget, start the process of repairing the railroad bridge, approve 2 union contracts, and change city code involving recycling centers. Since aldermen must also approve the paying of bills and several liquor licenses, a special meeting has been set for Monday evening. It's been roughly 18 months since a Keokuk city council meeting has been cancelled due to attendance.
