Keokuk, IA – A unique crime prevention program, which connects at-risk teens with local mentors, is expanding beyond Keokuk. Keokuk Police Seargent Ivan Parrish developed the Guardian Angel Project in 2003. The teens in the program design a guardian angel and then deliver the statues to seriously-ill children at a hospital in Iowa City. Parrish says a DVD and information guide, outlining the project, are now available for police departments interested in implementing it. Parrish says the first kit is heading to Ontario, Canada. He says the next Guardian Angel Project, in Keokuk, will get underway this fall, though another segment could be added earlier in the year.
