Macomb, IL – Macomb is now about halfway through the process of crafting a new comprehensive plan. The process is being overseen by the firm Teska Associates, which completed a community survey that got more than 900 responses. The study found that jobs and infrastructure are the most important issues facing the city. There is also a desire for more shopping, dining, and entertainment opportunities, especially downtown and on the west side. More progress was made on the plan Thursday night during a public session that drew about 20 people. The participants like the city but also perceive it as being tired looking and in need of a zoning strategy. Their vision is for a vibrant city with better maintained properties and stronger code enforcement. The downtown was called a gem, while West Jackson Street needs to be improved. They'd also like to see improvements made to Macomb's main entryways to create a more attractive and inviting first impression for visitors.
