Macomb, lL – A bill before the Illinois legislature would help increase the number of agriculture teachers in the state. Andy Baker of the Western Illinois University Agriculture Department says the goal is to have 150,000 students studying agriculture. He says many urban areas have no agriculture teachers, yet about one-fourth of the jobs in Illinois are ag-related. He says this provides a growth area that would help students find employment. The bill provides financial incentives for colleges. It also directs the state Board of Education to simplify transfers from high school to community college to university programs.
