Des Moines, IA – An effort to help small businesses secure affordable health insurance is moving through the Iowa legislature. The measure, which has been approved by a House Committee, would expand the current pooling opportunities available to businesses with 20 to 50 employees. Representative Phil Wise says trade, industry, or professional associations would be able to seek out insurance coverage for their members. The Keokuk Democrat says there are too many instances where these small businesses are not able to offer coverage to their employees. Wise says the measure also provides insurance companies with the opportunity to offer financial incentives if employers promote wellness programs... as these would help reduce the cost of health care.
