Macomb, IL – Community Development Coordinator Ed Basch says instead of trying to renew the current TIF district, the city should try something new. He suggests a different TIF district that preferably includes parts of the current one or is at least contiguous to it. Basch also says it could be made smaller and says the city could try using it to help private projects. He points out that renewing the current district would not produce a great deal of new revenue. In addition, the school district would need to "sign off" on it and a renewal would be good for only 11 years. A new district would be good for 23 years. The city's current TIF district expires in 2009.
