Keokuk, IA – More and more cities across Iowa are hiring administrators to oversee day to day operations. The Iowa League of Cities does not endorse a specific form of government for the more than 900 communities it serves. But Membership Services Director, Alan Kemp, says most operate under a mayor-city council government, with a manager or an administrator hired by the city. Keokuk is one of the only cities, of its size, in Iowa to employ a full-time mayor and no administrator or manager. That could change, though, as the city council has been discussing, for months, the idea of adding a professional and reducing the post of mayor to part-time. Mayor Dave Gudgel, whose term is up at the end of the year, hopes to finalize a committee, this week, that would take a closer look at the issue and provide more information to the council.
