Hamilton, IL – Construction could get underway, in a couple of weeks, on a new walking bridge in Hamilton. The city council approved the Hamilton Community Development Coalition's building permit for the bridge during last night's meeting. The 168' bridge will be built where Hamilton's old covered bridge once stood. Coalition member, Roger MacDermott, says building this walking bridge will open up a lot of opportunities near the old Dyke Road. The total cost of the project is expected to be about $14,000, though the actual cost could be much less. MacDermott says the necessary telephone poles and concrete have been donated and volunteers will build the bridge.
