Piping Alterations Delayed

Carthage, IL – The denial of a grant has put an effort to improve the piping between Carthage's water treatment plant and the pipeline from Hamilton into temporary limbo. Mayor James Nightingale says the $220,000 project might be completed some time in the next 18 months. He says rains that have re-filled the city's reservoir have removed some of the urgency from the project. Last fall, the lake was up to eight feet below the spillway, and the city increased water purchases from Hamilton. Nightingale says the changes would have allowed to city to take all of its needs from the pipeline if necessary.
