Macomb, IL – Macomb aldermen will need to wade through a couple more meetings before they can raise water and sewer rates. Aldermen on Monday night directed city staff to draft an ordinance that would increase each rate by 7%. They will review the ordinance during next week's committee meeting and will need to approve first and second readings after that. City Administrator Mike Hays says the average family of five's water bill will increase by $1.60 per month under the plan. Its sewer bill will rise by $1.50. If the plan is approved, the new rates will go into effect May 1. The money generated by the increases will pay for several improvement projects.
