County to Review Administrator Concept

Macomb, IL – The McDonough County Board has informally agreed to look into the idea of creating the position of county administrator. Some board members feel that having one could eliminate some of the errors that have plagued the county in recent years. Others believe that having a central contact point could make the county more efficient or save money. Don Anderson, who retired after 28 years as city administrator in Normal, outlined the pros and cons of the position during a special county board meeting. He told board members the effectiveness of the position depends on the job description and on the authority that's delegated to the position. He estimates that about half of the governmental administrative units across the nation have some kind of appointed manager.
