Code and Zoning Concerns Continue

Macomb, IL – Macomb aldermen spent more time discussing housing and zoning issues Monday night, and it's clear the matter remains a work in progress. Fourth Ward Alderman John Maguire said a recent listing of homes to rent for next school year shows the city still faces enforcement challenges. He wonders if some realtors even care about the city's ordinances. Second Ward Alderman Ken Zahnle said the city has a moral responsibility to help clean up the problematic northwest quadrant. He said the city has been lax in enforcement and lax in zoning. A meeting will be held next month to see what can be done in the northwest quadrant. The meeting will include neighborhood residents and representatives from Teska Associates, which is overseeing the city's comprehensive planning process.
