Macomb, IL – The Western Illinois Economic Development Authority has created its first enterprise zone. Director Charles Bair says the one-square mile zone near Griggsville could help attract final financing for the proposed Heartland Ethanol plant. In addition, Bair says the zone with its combination of tax abatements and sales tax savings can help a region retain existing businesses. The Authority recently received permission to establish up to 15 square miles of the zones. Bair says that could provide more than 800 acres in each of the 13 western Illinois counties. The new Pike County zone can be connected by a three-foot wide corridor to other areas.
