Macomb, IL – Heritage Days has become a tradition for the final weekend of June in Macomb. The festivities in 2006 took on special meaning because the city was celebrating its 175th anniversary. News Director Rich Egger put together a 175 second story to share some of the sounds from the celebration. The story originally aired in June 2006. It won First Place for Best Use of Sound in the Downstate Radio division of the Illinois Associated Press Broadcasters Association Journalism Excellence Contest. It also received the regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Use of Sound in Small Market Radio. The region includes Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio. The Murrow Awards are sponsored by the Radio & Television News Directors Association, which gives just one award in each category. The story will now be considered for a national Murrow Award.
