Macomb, IL – The Singing Seniors program at Spoon River College is both a course and a chorus. It was taught and directed by the same person since its inception a quarter century ago, but last June that person retired. News Director Rich Egger profiled Ruth Parks as she prepared to direct The Singing Seniors for a final time. The story originally aired in June 2006. It received the regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Feature Reporting in Small Market Radio. The region includes Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio. The Murrow Awards are sponsored by the Radio & Television News Directors Association, which gives just one award in each category. The story will now be considered for a national Murrow Award.
