Canton, IL – The entire Spoon River College region will have the chance to vote on a new mascot for the school. A student presentation at a Board of Trustees meeting showed a preference for the mudcat catfish as a mascot, with an informal survey showing few knew what a Crusader knight was. Students said the mudcat is native to the area and does not disparage any group. Board members asked for wider input, so a web site will be set up to take suggestions, and later take votes for the final choice. The goal of the college is to have the chosen mascot drawings prepared so the new mascot will be part of this year's spring graduation ceremonies.
