Keokuk, IA – One Southeast Iowa lawmaker says it would be wrong for President Bush to veto a military spending bill. Each chamber of Congress has passed its own version of a bill that continues funding for the war in Iraq and sets a deadline for troop withdrawal. Congressman Dave Loebsack (D-Mt. Vernon) says the veto would go against the will of the nation because voters called for a different course in Iraq last November. He says a committee, charged with creating one bill from the House and Senate versions, has not even been formed. President Bush has said that the Democrats are more interested in fighting a political battle in Washington than they are with providing the troops with what they need. Congressman Loebsack made his comments during a stop in Keokuk.
