Colchester, IL – Colchester residents will vote on a half-cent sales tax for street work in the April 17 election. Mayor Joe Wetzel says the idea was turned down once before, but he believes it will pass this time. He says aldermen have stipulated that the money raised will only be used for streets. In addition, the tax has a sunset provision that will eliminate the tax unless it's voted in again. Wetzel says the money is sorely needed to repair both street surface, and the drainage associated with keeping roads maintained.
