LaHarpe, IL – Residents in the LaHarpe Fire Protection District will vote April 17 on whether to tax themselves to support their own ambulance service. LaHarpe Ambulance Service Board Member Dean Moore says residents not been pleased since the town's ambulance was placed under the Hancock County ambulance service. He says most income has been retained by the county, and the stipends paid to volunteers have been cut. Moore says the town has one ambulance that's part of the county system, and one purchased with local donations. He says if the tax pases, the $20,000 it's expected to raise will keep the service running and allow the board to put aside some money for a replacement ambulance.
