Keokuk, IA – One Southeast Iowa lawmaker says each state should have more of a say in academic testing standards. First-year Congressman Dave Loebsack is sure that the Federal No Child Left Behind program will be re-authorized. To get that accomplished, though, the Mount Vernon Democrat says some changes will have to be made to the system. He says local educators are telling him that the testing process should judge growth, not one class against another. Loebsack says different profiency standards are also needed, as long as they are not established in Washington DC. Loebsack says the new Congress will also set aside more money to fully fund the mandates of NCLB. The Congressman made his comments following a meeting with members of the Keokuk School District's administrative team.
