Macomb, IL – McDonough County board member Earl Godt is looking into grants that could help the county cut its electric bills. Godt says he's investigating state and private grants to build a solar cell installation at the all-electric Elms nursing home. He says in January the power bill at the home almost doubled. He says it should be possible to put an array of solar panels on a five-acre county-owned field near the nursing home. Godt also says the possibility exists for a partnership with McDonough District Hospital for a larger installation. He says this would qualify the project for larger federal grants. The estimated cost of an array of solar panels for The Elms would be around $1.2 million. He says with the right grants, the county could have a payback period of six to seven years.
