Burlington, IA – Burlington's acting police chief says his late boss was truly a Cop's Cop. The city named Major Dan Luttenegger to the post following the death of Chief Dave Wunnenberg late Wednesday night. Wunnenberg joined the force in 1975 and was set to retire this October, after his 55th birthday. Luttenegger describes Wunnenberg as a cop's cop who came up through the ranks of the Burlington Police Department. He says Wunnenberg was working part-time at Bluff Harbor Marina at the time of the accident. Wunnenberg was driving an excavator onto a barge when the barge shifted and the vehicle fell into the Mississippi River. He served as police chief for nearly 10 years.
