Keokuk, IA – Lee County will review the services provided to residents at one of its apartment buildings. The county-owned complex at 721 Concert Street in Keokuk houses up to 8 individuals with mental health and other developmental disabilities. Several neighbors told the Board of Supervisors that they are concerned about the supervision of a couple of the residents and about the management of the facility. Chairman Larry Kruse says the issue must be addressed because an elementary school is several hundred feet from the complex. Keokuk Police Chief Tom Crew says his department has responded to more than 300 calls to the complex since the year 2000.
Meanwhile, the Lee County Board of Supervisors has agreed to purchase a house located next to the facility in question. The county will pay $4,000 for the run-down gray home on Concert Street. CPC Administrator Ryanne Wood says the structure will be torn down because it is a fire hazard. At this point, Wood says plans do not call for anything to be placed where the house stood.
