Carthage, IL – Construction could begin by next month on a 20-unit apartment complex for seniors.
Memorial Hospital Chief Financial Officer Teresa Smith says the $3.2 million development was planned after a survey showed a strong need for senior housing in Hancock County.
She estimates the new project could meet about five percent of that need. She says supported living facilities offer help with homemaking and meals, but do not include nursing care.
Smith says 15 of the units will be one-bedroom, while five will have two bedrooms. The project will be built just north of the current Hancock County Nursing Home. It's a joint venture of the nursing home and the hospital.
