Burlington, IA – An arrest has been made in connection to a pair of church fires in Burlington.
The Burlington Police Department arrested 28-year-old Kevin Ravelin of Burlington yesterday afternoon.
He has been charged with burglary and arson at the First Presbyterian Church and with burglary at the First United Methodist Church.
Lieutenant Darren Grimshaw says more charges could be added, beyond the three felonies, as the investigation continues.
Charges have not been filed in connection with the actual fire that destroyed the First United Methodist Church.
Investigators finally gained access to the remains of the building, yesterday morning, and have not determined if the fire was intentionally set.
Grimshaw says Ravelin became a person of interest after he was arrested early Sunday morning at a nearby business on burglary charges.
Ravelin is being held in the Des Moines County Jail.
Bond has been set at $78,000.
Grimshaw says Ravelin's next court appearance is scheduled for this morning.
