Macomb, IL – It's a time of transition for the Macomb School District. It will soon have a new superintendent, and now it has a new board president.
Ardell Thompson was the unanimous choice of fellow board members. She replaces Bill DeJong.
Thompson says the district has been performing well and she wants to continue that success. She says test scores have been excellent and the district has done well under the federal No Child Left Behind program.
Thompson hopes the board can work with the community, the Macomb Education Association and the Illinois Education Association to change the way schools are funded in the state. She says people across the state need to lobby for a change in the education funding system because school districts across the state are in need of help.

*Thompson is in her sixth year on the Macomb Board of Education.
*Board members chose Robert Shouse to serve as vice president and Matthew Clark as secretary.
*DeJong resigned from the board when his term expired after the April elections. But because there was a open seat on the panel, he agreed to be reappointed to the board.
