Celebrating 175 Years in 175 Seconds

Macomb, IL – This story earned First Place in the Best Use of Sound category of the Illinois Associated Press Broadcasters Association Contest and it won the Edward R. Murrow Award from the Radio & Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) in the Use of Sound category for the four state region that includes Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan. It will now be considered for a national award from RTNDA in that category. The story is about Heritage Days, which has become a tradition for the final weekend of June in Macomb. The 2006 festivities took on special meaning because the city was celebrating its 175th anniversary. News Director Rich Egger recorded the sounds of that celebration and condensed it into a 175 second feature.
