Iowa – This story earned First Place for Political Reporting in the Iowa Associated Press Broadcasters Contest. Reporter Jason Parrott did a thorough job of reporting on last fall's contest between popular Republican Congressman Jim Leach and Democratic challenger Dave Loebsack. Leach spent three decades in Washington and the moderate Republican appeared to be unbeatable. However, it proved to be a year of change and perhaps no result was more stunning than Loebsack's defeat of Leach. This is the third time in four years that Parrott has been honored with First Place in the Political Reporting category.
