Macomb, IL – This story won the Edward R. Murrow Award for Feature Reporting in the four state region that includes Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan. It will now be considered for the national award in that category. The Edward R. Murrow Awards are given by the Radio and Television News Directors Association (RTNDA). The story profiles Ruth Parks, who retired from Macomb High School around 25 years ago. Shortly after her retirement, Spoon River College contacted Parks about helping start a new music class for seniors. Now, a quarter-century later, Parks is ready to try retirement (again). News Director Rich Egger caught up with Parks as she led a rehearsal before her final gig as director of The Singing Seniors.
