Macomb, IL – The severance package for former Macomb City Administrator Mike Hays includes a $22,000 lump sum payment.
Mayor Mick Wisslead says the payment is for accrued vacation and comp time. He says the comp time is for attending city council and committee meetings.
The payment is in addition to the salary Hays will receive. He will continue to be paid for six months or until he finds a new job, whichever comes first. A half year's pay would equal about $43,000.
The package was approved by the old city council, which held its final meeting Monday night. The council also approved a $3,000 pay raise for Police Chief Mike Galloway, whose salary is now $63,632.

*After the old council adjourned, the new council members held their first meeting. They went along with the mayor's request to retain the law firm of March, McMillan & DeJoode. Wisslead says the firm will be paid $200,000 per year.
*Mayor Wisslead also chose to retain Fire Chief Andy Taylor and Galloway, among others.
*Wisslead was sworn in for his second term Monday night. New aldermen Richard Vick, Ed Lavin, Mike Inman, and Dave Dorsett were also sworn in, as were re-elected aldermen Chris Senn and Lou Gilbert.
