Carthage, IL – After an 18-month study, the Board of Directors of Carthage Memorial Hospital has decided to replace its present building.
CEO Ada Bair says the current building was built in 1950. She says new facilities would be better-suited to today's medical technology. Bair says the new facilities would be more cost-effective than trying to renovate the 57-year old structure.
In addition, she says most hospital services now are done on an out-patient basis. The goal is no longer keeping people in beds.
In addition, Bair says the way medicare works would give Memorial Hospital a better reimbursement rate. She says that is in part because of its connection to the Hancock County Nursing Home.
Bair says the cost of the new building has not yet been decided. Meetings next week with architects and consultants will begin to refine space requirements.
With that information in hand, she says planners will begin to come up with an estimated cost.

Also not specified is what will be done with the current building. He believes consultants will refine possible ideas on ways it could be used.
