Keokuk, IA – Investigators are still looking into an early morning house fire that killed two young children in Keokuk.
Fire Chief Mark Wessel says Keokuk's Fire and Police Departments and the State Fire Marshall's Office are still trying to determine the cause of the fire and where it started.
He says it could be days before the investigation is complete, though, at this point he does not believe foul play was involved.
Firefighters responded to the corner of 13th and Fulton at roughly 5:00 A.M.
Upon arrival, Wessel says they found two adults, with severe burns, and one child, who was relatively un-harmed, outside of the one-story-home.
The adults were taken to Keokuk Area Hospital and later flown to the University of Iowa Hospital.
Inside, he says the bodies of a two-year-old and a five-year-old were discovered.
No other injuries were reported.
Wessel says it has been several years since there was a fatal fire in Keokuk.
