Macomb, IL – The work of a renowned rock critic from Macomb will be celebrated this weekend.
Readings will be done from a collection of the writings of Rick Johnson. The book is "Rick Johnson Reader: Tin Cans, Squeems & Thudpies." It was edited by Bill Knight, a freelance writer who teaches at WIU. Knight also does weekly commentaries on Tri States Public Radio.
Johnson grew up in the Chicago area. He came to Macomb in 1969 to attend college. He developed a national following for the reviews he wrote in Creem. He spent most of his adult life in Macomb, where he ran a news stand and cigar shop until he died last year at the age of 55.

*The reading will begin at 1:00 pm Saturday May 19 at New Copperfield's Book Service on Macomb's Courthouse Square.
*Those who will read from the collection include Knight, his brother Tracy Knight, who is also a writer and teacher at WIU, Peoria Journal Star business and media reporter Steve Tarter, Monmouth Daily Atlas-Review Editor Stacey Creasy, and former UPI reporter Bill Page.
