Keokuk Fire Update

Keokuk, IA – Keokuk's fire chief says it could be weeks, or even months, before the cause of a deadly house fire is determined.

Chief Mark Wessel says investigators have processed the home on the Northwest corner of 13th and Fulton, but have not released it in case new details emerge during interviews.

Dylan White, 4, and Elizabeth White, 2, died from smoke inhalation early Tuesday morning.

Wessel says the investigation has reached the point where authorities need to interview the victims' parents, Matthew White, 34, and Joyce Boley, 25, who suffered extensive burns.

He says that with the seriousness of their injuries, investigators are not going to interfere with their medical care and healing process.

Wessel adds that they have some time on this and that they are viewing this as an accidental fire and there is no need to push it.

Wessel says there was no electrical power to the home but there was gas service.

He says the investigation, so far, has shown that neither played a role in the fire.
