Bushnell, IL – Bushnell residents will pay more for water and sewer service next month.
Mayor Steve Russell says an audit showed income was not meeting costs.
In addition, the city plans some major renovation of its water mains. Russell says the city plans to spend about $500,000 replacing the first ten blocks of its old, cast-iron mains.
Another 20 blocks of the old, cast-iron main remain to be replaced. Russell says applications for a state grant will be made to help pay the costs.
The rate increase will be about seven percent.
Russell says after that, aldermen plan a yearly cost-of-living increase until the renovation work is paid for and water and sewer fund balances are caught up with expenses.
