Donnellson, IA – A voting delay is not expected to prevent another Southeast Iowa school district from becoming tobacco-free this fall.
The Central Lee School Board tabled a measure that would have extended the district's smoke-free ban from all buildings to the entire campus.
Superintendent John Henriksen says the move allows the district to take the issue a step further and possibly enact a tobacco-free campus policy.
The Fort Madison and Keokuk School Districts already have tobacco-free campuses.
The Lee County Clean Air Coalition says a recent survey shows 95% of faculty members at Central Lee and 80% of students favored a tobacco-free policy.
Those results were presented to the school board.
Henriksen says the measure will likely be voted on during the school board's next two meetings.
