Rural Water System Half Completed

Colchester, IL – The West Prairie Water Cooperative is closer to serving its members.

Board Chairman George Dixon says about half of the 84 miles of line has been constructed, with the remainder scheduled to be finished later this summer.

He says water lines north of Route 136 in western McDonough County have been filled with water, though it has not yet been tested and approved for consumption.

He expects customers to be drinking the water by the end of July. That will complete Phase One of the system, which will serve more than 235 families and farms.

The system is financed by grants and more than $2 million in loans from Rural Development.
