Colchester, IL – Colchester dedicated its first veterans memorial over the Memorial Day weekend.
Elvin Hodges headed the committee that raised the funds for the monument.
He says the idea for the memorial came from retired school superintendent Glen Foster, who had seen similar memorials in other towns where he had worked.
The five foot tall marker includes emblems from all branches of the service, including the Merchant Marine.
A patio in front of the memorial includes bricks inscribed with the names of Colchester veterans and their branch of service.
