Rushville, IL – Rushville's mayor is urging contractors to complete a new well as soon as possible.
Scott Thompson says he expects production from it within six weeks.
The city is currently using two wells bored into the aquifer near the Illinois River. He says one of them went down over the weekend, leaving the city with only one producing well.
Thompson says the new well will cost about $360,000, which is considerably over estimates.
However, he says one of the city's wells is old, and should be treated to maintain production. He says the third well will be a backup to the backup well.
The third well is part of the city's new appropriations ordinance.
Thompson says it also includes allocations for buying equipment for the city's public works departments. However, he does not expect that the aldermen will make the purchases in the current fiscal year.
