Macomb, IL – A poll of McDonough County residents found they are generally satisfied with their communities.
The poll was conducted last fall by the Western Survey Research Center. Half the respondents were from Macomb. The rest lived elsewhere in the county.
Project Manager David Rohall says researchers wanted to get a feel for residents' satisfaction with different things going on in the community.
They found more than 50% of residents are satisfied or very satisfied with services and facilities including streets, law enforcement, parks and recreation, library services and education.
Rohall says two concerns stood out above all others. They are illegal drugs and property taxes.
News Director Rich Egger spoke with Rohall about the survey results. You can listen to that conversation by clicking on the audio button.

*Rohall says the poll also indicates people would like more options for dining, shopping, and entertainment. He says that's not unusual for a rural area.
*Rohall believes construction of a Performing Arts Center at WIU would improve residents' satisfaction with entertainment options.
*WIU is in the early stages of building a Performing Arts Center. Design firms will hold a public forum on Wednesday June 13 to present three design concepts. It will take place from 9:00am to 11:30am in the Tri States Public Radio Performance Studio.
