Mt. Sterling, IL – The Brown County School District is planning to cope with late payments of property tax money.
Superintendent Merle Kenneday says he's been told the local property tax money might not come in until November. He says usually payments come to the schools in August and September.
The taxes will be late because of problems the county is having implementing its Geographic Information System for new farmland assessment procedures.
Kenneday says he hopes to cover part of the late money with state aid and state reimbursements for transportation costs.
He says if Springfield stays current, that money should come in near the beginning of the school year.
He says another way to bring in money would be to sell tax anticipation warrants. However, he says the board instead is considering setting up a line of credit at a local bank.
Kenneday says this would mean the district would only pay interest on what it needs to borrow.
He says he has already begun to prepare for some interfund loans for the school year beginning July First.
