Macomb, IL – A McDonough County Board Committee will ask the full board whether it should continue looking into the idea of a county administrator.
Committee member Linda Jani says a survey of county board members believed having an administrator could offer long-range planning, and be someone who could investigate alternative revenue sources.
Jani says in the survey, some board members were against the idea of an administrator. She says some believe it is not needed. Others believe the cost would be too high.
She says other board members believe an administrator could avoid some of the costly mistakes that have plagued the board in recent years.
These include high overtime payments to an employee and problems with property tax preparation.
Jani says if the full board next week approves continuing the investigation, her sub-committee will revise a job description.
She says there are also things the board should do before it is ready to hire an administrator.
These could include hiring an informational technology person, clarifying an administrator's relationship with elected officers and clarifying committee oversight roles.
