Macomb, IL – Macomb aldermen are reviewing a proposal to cleanup the city's appearance.
The ordinance would prohibit trailers and abandoned vehicles from being used for long-term storage in residential and commercial areas. They would still be allowed in manufacturing districts.
Fifth Ward Alderman Dave Dorsett proposed the plan. He says the trailers are eyesores and the city can take care of the problem fairly easily without affecting a lot of people.
Dorsett says owners would have 30 days to remove the trailers and abandoned vehicles before facing a fine.
Dorsett says he's been keeping tabs on the issue for a while. The alderman says he has a list of problem areas to share with city staff.

*Dorsett says he brought up the issue when he first served on the city council about a decade ago. He says residents complained about a neighbor who was using a bus as a storage unit.
*Dorsett says residential neighborhoods are not the only areas dealing with the problem. He says trailers that are used as long-term containers can also be found right across the street from City Hall and along West Jackson Street.
*Aldermen reviewed the proposed new ordinance during this week's committee meeting. First reading of it could be held at next week's city council meeting.
