Macomb, IL – The Macomb Board of Education has approved a four-year contract agreement with teachers. It has also been ratified by the Macomb Education Association.
The board held a special meeting Wednesday morning June 13 to vote on the contract and take care of some other business. The new contract with teachers received unanimous support from the board.
The added cost to the district over the life of the contract is $2,468,185. The contract covers around 150 teachers.
School Board President Ardell Thompson says the length of the agreement is important. Thompson says incoming Superintendent Alene Reuschel can now focus on other issues.

*Thompson says both sides got down to the nitty-gritty right away and worked to reach the agreement. She also praises the professionalism shown by both sides during negotiations.
*The biggest added cost during the course of the contract will not be for teacher salaries. Rather, it will be for payments to the Teachers Retirement System.
*Thompson says school districts throughout the state still need help from the state to ensure they can afford quality teachers. She says the Macomb district has supported the idea of providing property tax relief in exchange for a hike in the income tax.
