Macomb, IL – McDonough County will begin using e-mail more and the post office less.
Changes in postal regulations mean if an envelope has too much paper in it, it could be charged the more-expensive parcel rate.
County Clerk Gretchen DeJaynes says board members often get voluminous background information before committee or board meetings.
She says if an envelope is more than 1/4-inch thick, it will be charged at the parcel rate, which is considerably more expensive.
County board members will be asked at next week's meeting if they are willing to receive the material by e-mail.
DeJaynes says this could cut the postage bill considerably.
Board members who choose not to use e-mail will still receive their information through the postal service.
However, DeJaynes says this means some of the meeting packets will have to be mailed at the parcel rate.
